Off the Charts episode of LOST

I am so in awe of tonight's episode of LOST that I hardly know where to begin! This was by far the best episode of LOST this season and quite possibly ever. What do you think? Best episode ever? If not, which episodes do you think top this?

Spoiler Alert: Don't read if you haven't watched Wednesday's episode of LOST!

Tonight's episode started out showing Jack in an repeat from episode 1, waking up in the jungle. He hears calls for help, runs through the woods, spots someone in water and does this potential neck breaking dive off a cliff and saves Hurley. What a man! I knew I liked him for a reason and he just reconfirmed my like all over! We quickly see that Kate is in fact on the island and then the screen flashes "46 hours earlier" and suddenly we are back in L.A. with Eloise Hawking and Ben, Jack, Desmond and Sun.

Eloise enlightened us with the concept that there were "pockets of magnetic energy" that enabled the island to be found to begin with and then she proceeds to tell us how the previous Dharma folks found the island once they shifted their thinking and began looking for where the island was going to be, not where it was. We learned that Jack was wasting his time in season 3 when he spent all that time flying Oceanic Air trying to crash.(season 3 season finale when we see our first flash forward with Jack and Kate and he tells he how he spends his weekends flying and hoping to crash on the island) What he needed was Eloise and her pendelum so she could help him and the others find their "window of opportunity" that would provide a route back to the island. Who knew it was so simple?!

After Desmond gives his great "You say the islands not done with me? Well I'm done with it!" speech, we find out that Jack and the others have 36 hours to get on a flight from L.A. to Guam if they want to have any chance of getting back to the island.

Can I just summarize here a bit? We find that to make this work the rescued Oceanic Six need to recreate as much of the original flight details as possible. We find out that Locke committed suicide. His death was a substitute for Jack's dad. Jack is to give Locke something of his dad's. We meet Jack's grandpa. He has a pair of Jack's dad's shoes. Jack takes them and ends up putting them on Lockes dead feet in the casket after Ben was beat up by "someone" and asked Jack to pick up Lockes body at the butcher shop.

Speaking of the shoes, when Jack stopped by his house before leaving and he heard a noise and went to check it out I was thinking the whole time, "Grab one of the shoes it will make a good weapon if you need to hurt someone!" Turns out it was Kate who doesn't want to talk about Aaron EVER AGAIN but she does want to make out with Jack and then some. (I'm printing it here tonight...my sister thinks that Kate killed Aaron and I think she's on to something)

Fast forward to the airplane and low and behold it's a reunion of sorts...THEY ARE ALL GOING BACK! Did anyone else feel a little giddy at how it all came together? I mean we knew it would all come together, we just didn't know how.

Favorite quotes from tonight?
1. On the plane Jack says to Ben,"How can you read?" Ben says, "My mother taught me."
2. Jack, "What is going to happen?"
Ben, "Why don't you tell me. You're then one that got to stay after school with Eloise Hawking"

What about Locke's letter: "Jack I wish you had believed me. JL " Any thoughts?
Then, flashing light and presto Jack, Hurley and Kate are on the island!

Who shows up but Jin, in the Dharma van in a Dharma outfit and points his gun at them. What is up with that?

How did Sayied end up in hand cuffs and how did he end up on the plane? What about Hurley? How did he decide to get on the plane?

Let me know your thoughts!
Take care,
Julie

I loved it when Eloise told Jack, "Oh, stop thinking about how ridiculous it is!" Kinda sums up the whole show, huh? ;-)

My biggest questions:

What happened to Aaron???

WHY do they all have to go back to the island? What do they do now that they are there? What's the point? Do they have to stay there forever now or are they bringing back everyone that got left behind? Are they in "real time" back on the island?

Who beat up Ben, and why?

Could you even get on an airplane KNOWING it was going to crash?!?

I also liked who the pilot of the plane was, and when he said, "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

I can't wait until next week!

It was mind blowing...I didn't think it was the best ep though...I was very irritated when watching...not sure why...

Here are my thoughts and theories...I have not read any other updates yet though...

Oh---My favorite line was when Jack told dead John that he was probably laughing his butt off b/c what Jack was doing was even crazier than Locke.

OK--Aaron--I don't think Kate killed him, but I do think she gave him to Claire's mother.

Ben---I think the....(I want to type SOB, would that just kill my reputation as a Godly woman?) killed Penny. He told Jack he was going to finish something he promised an "old friend" that he would do...well he promised Whidmore he would kill Penny...and we see Ben by BOATS with blood all over him and we know that Penny and Des and baby Charlie live on a boat...I so hope I am wrong about his. But after Ben said that to Jack I started talking to the TV screen, my words went something like this.."You leave Penny alone...do you hear me Benjamin Linus? You leave her alone." My husband had to remind me that he couldn't hear me.

I almost jumped off my chair when I heard the pilots voice and knew it was Frank! Awesome moment.

And what was up with the dude that told Jack he was sorry about his friend? I think he's a planted other...

Oh my biggest question---if you get on a plane knowing that you are going to crash on a jungle island...why the heck would you wear a business suit?

I'm also wondering if Hurley stuffed Charlie's guitar case with food.

Hey there!

I think jack was wearing the suit because that's what he was wearing the first time. I believe he so desperately wants to get back to the island to right things that he would do anything (even putting his dad's shoes on a dead Locke) to get back! Angela, I'm so afraid you could be right about Penny! It pains me to write that! How could Kate have given Aaron back to Claire?
Such good stuff!
Take care,
Julie

I followed your link from ROCKS IN MY DRYER and wanted to invite you to post your recap at the LOST Books Blog - we link up to lots of recaps each week.

I LOVED this episode! So many questions were raised!

I used to live on Guam. Thank God that didn't happen on my flight! ;)

I don't even think anymore when watching. The only time I did was when Kate told Jack to never question her about Aaron again. Ruh roh. Not sure I could make that promise, personally.

Reading the comments, oh! I hope that's not what happens to Penny.

In typical Lost fashion, a lot was answered, but even more questions were raised.

The whole Dharma van/Jin thing makes me wonder if they have time traveled to the past when Dharma was on the island.

Mrs. N: I wonder where you got the idea of the food in the guitar case?

Angela Nazworth said...

Dr. N gave me the food idea...it was not my own bright idea and in fact, when I typed it I was not even thinking it was a bright idea. :-) All the other ideas were mine, but as I read other posts on other blogs, the Penny theory is shared. I think Kate gave Aaron to Claire's mother, not Claire. Well, it does seem that they landed back in time, but I'm not sure how long they will stay there...but Jin must have been there for a while and joined team other. Oh...Dr. N just suggested that perhaps Hurley got on the plane because Charlie's ghost told him to. And Dr. N is thankful that his wife is no longer guilty of plagiarism. I think that since S. worked for Ben as an assassin, that Ben gave police incriminating evidence that got S. arrested and placed on that flight...he may even have killed someone in Guam once upon a time.

I am also thinking that the first plane crash was somehow rigged and that at least Jack was destined to be on it...

Hi Mr. and Mrs. N.! :) You two are funny!

Mrs. N. I read your comment incorrectly, you wrote Claire's mom, and I thought you just said Claire. Sorry about that!

I do hope we get to see Charlie again!

Since Ben was willing to scare Kate with a paternity suit I think you could be correct about Ben getting Sayid in trouble.

Glad the plagarism got worked out! I'd hate to have my blog stuck in the middle of that! :)

Take care,
Julie

If someone I knew got on a plane looking half dead, I think I might ask what had happened! And yes, he promised he'd kill Whitmore's daughter and I think that is what he did or tried to do. One of my kids think Kate killed Aaron but why would she do that? I think she either gave him to Granny or Ben has done something with him to get Kate to go to the island.
And the line about Ben's mom teaching him to read - she died in childbirth!

Angela Nazworth said...

Didn't Ben's mom appear as a ghost or something on the island at least once throughout his childhood? I love how all the characters acknowledge Ben's lying. Like when Jack asked Mrs. Hawkins if Ben was telling the truth and she said, "Probably not." That was a great line. Part of me really wants Ben to get killed, but the character...I love hating him

Angela Nazworth said...

Ohhhh, I just got a new theory about Aaron. Ok, here is what must have happened. The smoke monster escaped from the island through a time window portal and went to LA. He got a hold of Aaron. Aaron, possessed by the smoke monster held Kate prisoner and told her that she had to go back to the island to save his mother and that it would also be the only way to save him. Scared, Kate gives Aaron to Claire's mother, tearfully confesses and says good luck. The writers soooo are going to want to hire me if they read this. Oh, I have a little blog contest going on at All that Naz. Try to win.

So, I am thinking you are going to ban me from commenting...but I have to add...I was thinking...the ep was titled John316...and I think it is because the writers are comparing the island to God and John Locke to Jesus...I have issues with that, but I'm suspending them.

Anyway...remember when Benjicreepyman Linus told Jack that they had only 72 hours to get back...do you think that was a hint at John's resurrection. Of course normally one does not have a funeral on the day of ones death...but this is Lost after all...
