Hey there!
No, I have not gone away or quit blogging. Life has just been a little crazier than normal and somehow, unfortunately, my blogging got left behind.
Let's see...what have I been doing lately?
We celebrated my son's 4th birthday at Chuck E Cheese's this weekend and I am happy to report, everyone survived. It was our son's first official party where he invited friends. Let's just say, he is now a fan of birthday parties and the gifts that come along with it. We had a great time. I must say though, I am amazed at how many kids do not want a big stuffed mouse coming towards them unaware. Not that I blame them. Lots of running, yells and tears when Chuck E Cheese came out to do the whole "Happy Birthday" routine complete with dancing and singing. Maybe the restaurant could just get rid of the mouse and keep everything else. Sounds like a good plan to me.
On Monday I had another chance to substitute in my daughter's kindergarten class. I am happy to report that the second time is definately easier than the first. Experience gave me the upper hand this time. I could remain firm when faced with the dilemma, "What do we do if one of the door holder/flag holders is absent?" or how to respond to the question of "Teacher may we put our nap mats by each other during rest time?" I was so naive the first time, but not this time. I had a great day and love those little kids.
The birthday boy must have worn himself out as he's been sick the past couple of days with a fever, cough and congestion. He must feel sort of okay because we still managed to get in five games of CandyLand on Wednesday, of which I only won one. I didn't even rig the game.
My oldest has been enjoying the Karate kids class he takes after school once a week. (Sister takes the class too, but I get the impression she's in it more for the social aspect of it...her best friend from her kindergarten class is in karate too) The oldest has been showing us the moves they learn. Jackie Chan better watch out.
Hope all is well for you all. Drop by when you get a chance, I'd love to hear from you.
Take care,
Julie

Some Random Thoughts
Hey there!
Just wanted to say "Hi!" Hope you all are doing well. I'm taking a break from Friday's Favorites tomorrow because a special someone in my family has a birthday. It's not me, but you'll have to come back on Friday and see!
By the way, Mom, if you are reading this today, "Happy Birthday!" I'll be calling you soon!
Have a great day and I'll talk to you all tomorrow.
Take care,
Julie

What's a Girl to do?
The other day I went to my favorite salon to get my hair cut. It ended up being one of the best haircuts I have had in a while. Long layers. Thinned out. All equals less frizz for me here in South Texas and that is a very good thing.
Anyway, I was faced with the same dilemma I encounter each time I go to have my hair cut...
What do I do with my purse when I am taken back to have my hair washed?
It is quite the problem.
Do I....
A. Leave my purse at my stylist's station hoping nothing happens to it.
B. Take it back with me while I get my hair washed and risk appearing a bit paranoid.
C. Leave my purse at home and just bring a debit card and my drivers license.
D. None of the above.
What do I do?
I can tell you what I won't do. Leave my purse at home. I only leave my purse at home when I am going for a jog, otherwise it is attached to my arm.
So I wrestled with the issue internally while I was waiting to have my hair washed.
Then I made my decision.
I left the purse at the station.
I just hope my mom is not reading this. She just may pass out from the stress caused from thinking about all that could have happened to my purse while it was left alone out in the open for everyone to see.
What about you all? How do you deal with the purse issue while at the stylist? Let me know. I'm curious how others handle this whole situation.
Take care,
Julie

So this giant mosquito walked into a ...
Sorry folks, that is all I have for a mosquito joke. It is evening and I've got nothing. So I asked my kids if they knew any mosquito jokes. My 3 year old said he did. It goes like this. "What does a mosquito do if you bite it?" he asked.
"I don't know." I said.
"Chop off your teeth!" he said and then laughed hysterically.
How he ever came up with chopping off your teeth, I'll never know.
My daughter who is 5 said, "What does a mosquito do if you take its buzz?" "What?" I asked. "Bite you!" she said, laughing just as hysterically as her brother.
Clearly, they get their unique sense of humor honestly.
To say the mosquitos are a problem here in South Texas is an understatement of gigantic proportions. Since Hurricane Dolly brought our area significant rains, we've been blessed (and I use that word with just a smidge of sarcasm) with lots of mosquitos.
I'm a little concerned to let my kids out in the backyard for fear they will be carried away by an angry horde of mosquitos, never to return home again. It reminds me of an episode I watched on Animal Planet where a bald eagle swooped into a tree and carried away an unsuspecting monkey to eat for dinner.
But I digress.
Today the kids were champions as we were out and about running errands for almost 6 hours. That is not entirely accurate. We did have lunch with the kids best friends (who happen to be brother and sister) and their mom who is a dear friend of mine. It was great to catch up with them since returning from vacation.
On a final note, we were able to get an amazing deal on an airplane ticket so my husband can go to our friends dad's funeral next week. My husband was going to go no matter what the cost, it's just that now I don't have to sell off any of my shoes to do so.
God is good.
Take care,
Julie
